The best threads to use in Modern crochet lace is a #10 fine and smooth Sapfir threads. These are provided by Ms. Julia Tushnicka of Ukraine.
Irish Crochet and Clones (Clo-ness) Lace work up nicely with #10, #20, #30, #50 and smaller. Lizbeth thread is a favorite choice of Maire (My-rah) Treanor in those sizes. Beginners should work with #10 for motifs and #20 for netting.
